((I dunno. .3.))

"Oh, uh...well, when I first came here, those people you call scientists found me and put me in a room. They were doing a bunch of stuff, sometimes stuff that I didn't really like. But they made up for it by giving me a television. But I didn't know that you could change the channel, so I was always watching people cook things inside the box..." Sylas thought back, tilting his head to the side. "And I asked if I could try cooking things. The nice scientists agreed. I made simple things at first, but tried my hand at harder things. My room soon had a whole pantry, oven, fridge, stove, and so on. And I would always watch the people cooking on TV, and I did exactly what they did. Sometimes it tasted really good, sometimes it didn't. It was trial and error, I suppose...and, here we are today. I'm really good at it now." Sylas smiled, nodding.

((Darn. I have learned from FFFF that I roleplay best with A. good characters and B. an actual plot. So, we should work on that. Also, I should kill off most of my characters and severely edit all the rest.))

Tyler nodded with interest, looking as serious as the goofy child could manage. "I'm glad you didn't know how to change the channel, because I like your cooking." He stop and thought about the rest of Sylas' statement, confused only on one point. "Where did you come from? You said 'when I first came here' and that means there was somewhere else. Are you really an alien, like Aurora said?" The boy's eyes lit up in excitement at the idea, a vague concept of alien having been formed in his head by the movie E.T.

((We could just start a different one, if you wanted. xDD))

Sylas blinked. "Yes...I suppose I am an alien. But I'm  a good alien. Not green with three fingers." He checked his hands, as if to make extra sure. "I'm not really sure how I got from there to here. I don't want to go home, though...I like this world. And the people on it." He smiled down at Tyler.

((I really like your characters. I just need to get better characters myself. I'll do some thinking. It seems wasteful to end it now.))

Tyler grinned up at Sylas and climbed up onto the counter to watch Sylas continue cooking. He leaned back across the counter and stared at Timothy, who was still sitting next to Werr. "Look, Sylas! Timothy is being friendly. He's never been friendly to Werr before." The boy pulled himself back into a sitting position and watched Sylas prepare the soup. "Do you remember every show you watched?"

((Nah. It'd be less effort on your part, and you know I can make more characters really easily.))

"I do. I remember every show...even Zoobomafoo." Sylas nodded.

"Interesting..." Aurora frowned, then thought of something. "Sylas, are you able to remember anything you watch on television?"

"Yes, I think so." Sylas nodded.

"Quinn turns on the news. Do you remember those?"

"I do."

"Do you..." Aurora thought for a moment. "Do you read cookbooks?"

"Yep!" Sylas said cheerfully. "I've read a lot."

"Do you remember those?"

"Not as well as the tellyvision." Sylas shrugged.

"Interesting." Aurora nodded with a curious smile. "You Iyouis are strange creatures. I'm very fortunate to have met you, Sylas."

((I'll start thinking of a good new base then.))

Tyler stared at Sylas in shock when he mentioned Zoboomafoo and continued grinning. "You can remember Zoboomafoo? What about the not-movies, like people? Do you remember all the people things you do?" The boy jumped off the counter and stood on his head by the wall, still watching Sylas cook. "When will the soup be ready? I love your soup lots!"

((I can work it out. Wanna do another post-apocalyptic thing, but more serious and less fantasy/steampunk-oriented, and not related to our current characters at all?

Or maybe a victorian-era thing? And should we continue this at all?))

"Soon," Sylas chuckled, slicing up more parsley to put in the soup. "I don't remember all the people things I've done. I remember...my first encounter with a toilet. Those scared me." He dumped his pile of spices into the pot, starting to stir so the noodles wouldn't stick. "But if it was on the television, I remember it. All of it. I can copy a lot of it, too...it sometimes takes a couple tries, but I can do it really fast and easy."

((Continuing is up to you.
I like the idea of a serious fantasy, no steampunk. Victorian era fantasy?))

"How come you remember TV but not real life?" Tyler inquired. Poor Sylas would likely be stuck in this room all night, feeding the boy and answering his questions. It was a good thing the Iyouis was so patient, considering the company he kept.

((Alright. Around the time of gun development, I imagine; it's always nice to get to the middle of a roleplay and have the plottwist, "HA! I have a new invention! It's called a gun, and it has twice the power your magics ever will have!" Of course, the first guns were not very accurate, but they still did a lot of damage.

Should I get the first post, or would you?))

"I'm not sure," Sylas frowned.

"Hmm...have you tried playing on a computer before, Sylas?" Aurora questioned. "Maybe it has something to do with the screen..."

"No. What's a computer?" Sylas frowned.

((Setting: I'mma say France or England, or the fantasy-world equivalent. Those were the most prominent nations at the time. Right around the creation of guns, yes. So coaches (pulled by horses), no cell phones, computers, televisions; if it's a more industrial city, lots of smog, if it's not, plenty of farms. Churches were also pretty prominent at the time, and I was thinking of playing off of some Catholic ideas, if you're comfortable with that. I probably will change the name of the religion, so I feel free (and comfortable) editing things. We all know how uncorrupt (sarcasm) that church was at the time. I think I'll keep it that way.

I'm not sure who I'll be using yet. New setting/plot means new characters for me. I don't have a standard set that I use. They just sort of...come out. You should know that by now. .3.))

((I'm not Catholic, so I have no problem with a corrupt religious system based off the historical facts of what happened. Few questions, though.
Should the church be supportive of magic (all the priests learn it) but controlling, the way they did with the Bible? Or would they condemn it and lead the witch-hunts?
Is the magic controlled by spells and incantations, or could you do magic on accident if you were strong enough? Getting upset and shattering a teapot or something...))

((Questions are good. Questions lead to understanding.

I think that the whole witch-hunt thing is overplayed by me in particular. They should be very supportive of magic, and very controlling of it. There could be some who condemn it, maybe a couple small towns, but no one in a place of power. The Vatican would have small schools for the magically-inclined, in which they would find the best talents and add them to their priesty ranks, and keep tabs on all the rest so they can be taxed for using magic or something stupid like that.

I'd say incantations, and runic circles for the strongest ones, but there are tools a magi could use to output magic without need for words. Like staffs and rods and whatnot.

More questions? I like answering these.))

((What about a young child? How do they manifest magical power? Are there any inborn talents, requiring just yourself, or does it all require a focus-item? Do other cultures have magic, such as the Gypsies or the islands being conquered by Britain? Has America been found yet? I think so, but my history is terrible. Is this post-Reformation or pre?))

((It's a skill that everyone can learn, but not everyone can master. Some people just naturally find themselves inclined to it; like math class or science class, vs history class or english class. It does not ALL require a focus-item, but it's easier if you're rich enough to own one.

Gypsies would be incredibly magically inclined, considering their culture, but they're travelers who want nothing to do with the Vatican. they would likely be the major threat against the Vatican, upon consideration, but the Gypsies would be a peaceful people who want nothing to do with war.

Pre-reformation. Revolution didn't happen 'till a certaingunIdonotrememberthenameof was made, and this is right around the first versions of the gun. I know my history from gun knowledge. It's kinda sad.))

((So pre-Martin Luther and all that? Because if we go with the reformation it would be a good plot element.
Okay, that sounds great. The Vatican provides the classes for free if you are talented enough? And is there any of the 'oh, I'm scared oh look he's flying away' or 'oh I'm scared of the dark oops the house is on fire'?))

((Interesting, indeed.

OH, REFORMATION. I thought you meant like the American revolution and crap 'cuz you mentioned it. Those happened at two different times. We could work with the Reformation, yeah. Although, what would the reformation be trying to accomplish? Keep in mind that this isn't the difference between Catholic and Prodastant. This is a magical Catholic, vs...?

Obviously, the Vatican would provide your schooling for free and support your family if you were gifted enough.

There can be accidents, yes, but only the most powerful of magi should be capable of defying natural laws. Flying is not a normal magical spell, because it defies the law of gravity. Turning coal into gold would defy the laws of matter. Turning water to ice, however, would be an easy feat. Making tree roots entangle the feet of a foe is a simple spell, as well. Make sense?))

((It does make sense.
Controlling Catholic vs machine-based Protestant. The Protestants believe in setting aside magic in the name of progress, the Catholics believe in taking the talented children and using them in the church. The goverments believe in trying to get the Catholics to stop taking their talents and hoarding magical talent and information. Right?))
