The Forgotten Zodiac

Letting out a soft sigh Rynyn shook his head. "I sorry to hear that..." He looked up at Subject, then got to his feet. "I haven't the foggiest. All we have to go on is what she tells us, which is one of the many reasons I don't trust her." He grunted, holding his hand down to help Subject up.

Subject took it, climbing to his feet with Rynyn's help. "What are we going to do about her? We're not going to kill her, are we?" He grabbed his coat off the ground and put it back on, then strapped his gun over his shoulder again.

Rynyn didn't answer for a moment. "I... I don't know. I might. If she gets in the way I just might." He growled. "Go on and wake her up. We need to get moving." He said, turning his back to Laurie.
Laurie was oblivious. Still asleep with her arms over her ears, she heard nothing of what was the boys had said about her. 

"Alright," Subject nodded. He walked up to Laurie, crouching next to her and tapping her on the shoulder. "Laurie, it's time to get up," He said, tilting his head one way.

Rynyn glared at the groud in front of him while Subject woke Laurie. Laurie sat up quickly, blinking rapidly, to adjust her eyes to the light. "Oh. Good morning!" She said, smiling at Subject as she got to her feet. "Are we going now or are we going to have breakfast?" She asked, picking up her containers of food.

Subject blinked at the food and looked at Rynyn, unsure of what the answer was. His stomach growled angrily at him; he hadn't had much to eat recently. The most he had was pudding last night, and that was only a few mouthfuls.

"No. We're wasting time." The moment Rynyn's word's ceased his stomach picked up and growled loudly, easily audible to Subject and Laurie. Laurie smiled and started laughing. "COme on, we can eat as we go." She started walking and moved next to Rynyn, holding out some food, which he rudely rejected.

Subject took it happily, following the two of them with ease. Eating was probably the only times when Subject could keep his mouth shut, and he knew it. He ate slowly, figuring that Rynyn was still upset with him from last night.

Laurie smiled at Subject took the food, then got some for herself. She was also quiet as she ate, not having anything to say yet.

Rynyn glanced at Subject while he ate, then sighed loudly, walking a little faster.

Subject finished his food easily, and was still somewhat quite as they walked. Eventually, though, he started humming something quietly. He got a bit louder as they walked on, and it increased to him singing at the top of his lungs, doing cartwheels around Laurie and Rynyn.

Laurie smiled and eventually laughed, amuzed by Subject's performance. 

Rynyn did his best to ignore it. He did find in extremely annoying, but he didn't want to ask Subject to stop; he felt bad for unintentionally making the boy so upset the night before. He didn't let his annoyance show, he just kept to himself, walking in silence until finally stopping. "Subject, about how far are we from Wyrmhurst?" He asked, grabbing Subject's shoulder gently to make him be still for a moment.

Subject, smiling from ear to ear, thought about it for a moment. "A few hours walk," He nodded. "It would be quicker if we could find a car, but I don't think we'll be able to until we reach the next town, which is a half an hour or so from here." He thought for a moment more, then grinned again. "Whhhhyyyy?"

"I see. Thank you." Sighing, Rynyn nodded and let go of Subject's shoulder, then started walking again. "Because I want to know." He said, scowling just a bit at Subject's grin. 
Laurie walked beside Subject, putting him between herself and Rynyn. She sighed. "I don't think he likes me very much." She said, as if she'd not noticed any of his mild hostility towards her until then.

"He's just grumpy because I'm annoying him again..." Subject's smile vanished, and he kicked at a dandelion puff, now annoyed at himself. He didn't want to be annoying, he hated it, but there was nothing he could do to stop himself. And if he tried to think after getting up in the morning, the voices would come back and tell him to do things that he didn't want to do, so thinking about it was definitely a bad thing.

In layman's terms, Subject stopped thinking about the subject and went back to smiling again.

Laurie frowned. "No, I really don't think he likes me." She said, then shrugged. "Anyway, do you wanna tell me about yourself? I'm not going to try to talk to him, especially if he is grumpy like you said." She smiled at Subject as they walked.

Rynyn scowled and sighed hearing that. He wouldn't have taken kindly to any conversation offered by Laurie, but it didn't make him feel great to hear her say she wasn't going to talk to him, even though it was his fault for being so unfriendly.

"Well, you should always try to talk to people, or you'll never get talked to," Subject pointed out. "About me? What do you want to know about me?" He frowned, a little confused. He couldn't remember Rynyn ever asking such a question, much less anyone else. No one else really cared much about him.

Laurie frowned. "I'm talking to you. You'll talk to me, won't you?" She shrugged and sighed. "Well, anything you'd like to tell me, really. We've got a lot of time on our hands, so we might as well kill some of it by talking.

"Kill it? Kill time? That's horrible!" Subject gasped, then stopped to think about it. "Oh. Time. I get it now. Sure, I can tell you about myself. I don't remember much before the different place, though. I remember my mother...she was nice. A little like you, but her face was different. She was always nice, except for when she made me eat all of my vegetables. I don't remember my dad...I mean, I know I have one, but I don't think he was ever really there. He worked a lot. And...I think I had a sister." He rubbed his arm, looking a little pale now. "Then they put the stuff in the water, and we had to move a lot after that. And then I was caught. I broke out of one place, and then I was taken to the different place, and then I was stuck there for a very long time until a group of people broke in and got as many people out as they could...except most of them died before escaping. I'm the only one who didn't. And I didn't let myself die because I knew that I had to save mister rabbit."

Laurie was quiet, listening attentively to what Subject had to say, and Rynyn listened also, even though he wasn't part of the conversation. Instead of asking more about his family or different place, even though she was curious, because she knew it may make him upset, she smiled and said. "Who's Mister Rabbit?"  

Subject smiled a little bit. "He's a stuffed animal that they gave me in the different place. He stops the voices from telling me to do bad things. We stopped in one of the silent cities when escaping, and we were sleeping in a house and the people who were helping me escape carried me off while I was asleep. But they didn't get Mister Rabbit. So he's still there, all alone, unable to help me. It's very upsetting." He sighed, looking upset indeed.
