The Forgotten Zodiac

Smiling at the odds Subject gave him, Rynyn nodded slightly and stiffly. "Oh. Good." Rynyn looked down at Subject as he felt the younger boy's hand slip into his. He smiled compassionately down at Subject and nodded understandingly. "I understand." He said, looking around as the light was quickly fading away. 

"I don't think you really do..." Subject looked around suspiciously, sticking close to Rynyn. "Maybe we could run? That would help us get there faster...you seem to be in shape, so that's good, you could probably run for a nice long distance before getting tired...I could probably run longer, but I wouldn't leave you behind or anything."

Rynyn shrugged. "If you think running is a good idea..." He frowned and looked down at Subject. "I can run, but I won't know where to run being as dark as it is..." He said, looking up. There was hardly any visible light left to show where they were putting their feet.

"Oh...I guess you're right," Subject bit his lip, still holding onto Rynyn's hand. "I...sorry, I'm just...I don't like the dark." He made a face, but shook it off. "I'll be okay...let's just keep moving?"

Giving Subject's hand a gentle sqeeze, Rynyn sighed and kept watching him. "Well, we could walk quickly, and if we come across a straight, we can run as long as we're careful." Rynyn smiled down at Subject. "Don't worry."

"I guess...sorry. I can't help but worry." Subject shook hs head. "I can't see when it's dark, and when I can't see, I start seeing other things, and those other things sometimes try to attack, and it gets really, really scary. The only safe dark place is my house, when my flashlight burns out. Which is why I didn't bring it; it was burned out. If it wasn't, I wouldn't be quite as upset..."

Rynyn frowned and nodded. "Oh..." He understood Subject's fear. "I get it." He himself for a short time had a bit of a promblem with that, as Myst's eyes were the same way for a long time. "Maybe we can find you a new flashlight while we're out. Would that be good?" He asked, swallowing slightly as they started into the trees.

"You do? We will? That would be great. I think there will be flashlights where Mister Rabbit is, so we should definitely pick some up there." Subject nodded. "Maybe three, one for all of us! If we can find that many."

Rynyn laughed quietly. "Maybe we'll even extra flashlights for all of us." He said, trying to keep Subject happy. "But we won't know until we get there, so let's run; we're on a straight path here." He said, still holding onto Subject's hand. 

Subject nodded eagerly, then started running, pulling Rynyn along behind him. He was a fast runner, and it made sense, considering how small he was. He probably didn't have all the energy Rynyn had, considering Rynyn was a bit better fed than he was right now, but that didn't matter much to Subject.

The older boy of the pair smiled as they started running. The only reason Subject was ahead of Rynyn was that he was gonserving all of his extra energy. Who knew what they'd have to face once they got to Wyrmhurst. He took care to pay attention to the ground infront of them to prevent any roots or large fallen sticks from tripping them.

Subject ran for a good long while, but he slowed as the path started turning, making a more winding route. "Darn..." He panted a bit, peering behind them. "They must be hiding...what to do, what to do..." He muttered to himself, sounding worried. "W-well, no matter, it's not like they've never actually hurt me before...but what if they do this time? I don't want to be hurt! But why would they start now? They're jealous, that's why. They want my new friend. You can't have him!" Subject shouted at the shadows. "We're going to go save his sister and if you take him, I'm going to shoot you all! In the faces! He's MY friend!" He grabbed Rynyn's arm in his free hand, glaring at nothing.

Rynyn looked down at Subject when he stopped. Getting tired simply from being awake so long he was starting to get irritated with Subject's silliness. "Subject, I am YOUR friend." He sighed loudly and put his other hand on Subject's shoulder. "Nobody is going to take me from you, I'm not going to let anyone or anything hurt you. Can we keep going now?" It was clear in his voice was was getting tired and slightly irritated with Subject. 

Subject looked a little put out by the tone of Rynyn's voice, and perhaps a little confused. This wasn't his silliness, this was his normal self. On a good day, at that. Rynyn would have some problems if he was getting irritated now. "Yeah, let's keep moving..." Subject nodded, not looking up at Rynyn.

Feeling a hint of regret at barely making out Subject's expression, Rynyn sighed and started walking at a medium pace, careful to watch where he and Subect would put their feet. "So where are we headed after we get out of this trees?" Rynyn asked after a little while. "And are we even going the right way? You haven't directed me at all since we got here!"

"We've been walking straight." Subject said. They had veered off the path when they had started running. "We're going the right way, I can tell. I'll check if you want, but I'm pretty sure we're going the right way." He stopped, intending to check anyways. He took off his shoes and scrambled up one of the trees, using low-hanging branches to pull himself up, and his bare toes to grip footholds better. It took him a few minutes, but he found an open part between the branches, so he could see the sky.

"I see it!" He shouted down at Rynyn. "The northern star. It's behind us, so we're headed south. Once we get out of the woods, we can turn east and follow the treeline, and we'll find the quiet people place."

Rynyn sighed. If he could tell they were going the right way, why did Subject feel the need to check? Nodding slowly, Rynyn scowled once Subject was up and out of sight. He was getting more and more irritated now that they were spending mroe time here stopped when they should be moving. "Good, now come back down, we need to get moving!"

"Alright," Subject slid down and pulled his boots back on with all due haste. He grabbed Rynyn's hand again. "Can we run more? I saw them, before I came down...I saw them." He said, fear in his voice. "They're coming, we have to get out of here." He glanced over his shoulder nervously.

Rynyn sighed and nodded, waiting for Subject to get his boots on. "Yeah, we can run, as long as you know where we're going." He said. Frowning slightly. "Subject, who did you see." He asked concernedly. He was assuming that it was just more of Subject's insane imagination. He started running as Subject requested that they do. "I told you, I'm not going to let anyting hurt us."

"I saw the white people. I don't know who they are, but I now that they're white and glowy," Subject said, keeping pace with Rynyn easily. "I know you said that, but no one else can see the white people, and how can you fight something you can't see?"
