The Forgotten Zodiac

Karsenir turned, hearing her distress in her voice. He frowned and started to lean closer to her when there seemed to be something of an earthquake and the island moved. As she clung to him, he grabbed hold of her and held on tightly until things seemed to be as they should. After a moment of grasping what had happened in silence, Karsenir faced Avis and straightened up a little. "Avis...I promise we are not going to be stuck here." He said. Once he said this he looked around again with a sigh, hoping to be struck with an idea of escape.

"R-right," Avis nodded, though she was very much aware that the island was still swaying. Perhaps...perhaps that was what they needed. Perhaps they could wait until the edge was close enough to solid ground, and then somehow jump across? Avis thought for a moment more, then asked, "Karsenir...how far do you think you could throw me?" She tilted her head to the side. "If you had one end of a rope, and I held onto the other, you could throw me across and I could tie the rope to something sturdy. You could climb up easy," She said quietly, eying his bulky frame with a tiny bit of jealousy. It was easy to wish that she was as strong as him...

Karsenir was quiet a long moment. So many things could go wrong with that plan. He might not be able to get her across, or she could get hurt as she landed, or there might not be anything study enough near enough, or, or-  His mind ran on with unplesant consequences of carrying out Avis' plan. "....I...Guess....Something like that could work..." He muttered hesitantly, still trying to mentally iron out problems he saw.

Avis thought about it for a long moment, then sighed. "Maybe...maybe we could wait for it to swing close to the edge, and you could jump across? We could still use the rope, you could pull me up once you're on the other side, or something..." She tilted her head to the side a bit, tensing as the island shifted again, tilting backwards a bit.

Karsenir stayed quiet a few moments longer, thinking over that. "I don't like that either. If the rope were to snap,,,,," His voice fell silent before he finished. He wasn't aware that he had started to lightly rub Avis' shoulder as he spoke. "I'm not going to do that, Avis." He stated finally, sighing loudly in frustration. "I do not want take any risks that we don't have to." 

"Syn said he enchanted it, though. The ropes. To not break," Avis said quickly, pulling one of the ropes out. She looked around quickly, finding a sharp rock and holding one end down with her foot and pulling a section of the rope taut, trying to cut it. Nothing happened. The rock didn't even scratch the rope. "See? Karsenir, I don't want to be on this island anymore...I-I'm just trying to help..."

Karsenir frowned, eyebrows furrowed as he watched her try to break the rope. "...." He remained silent, pensive for a long minute, deciding how to proceed. He frowned, shook his head and sighed loudly, as if frustrated. "Tell me again, and be very detailed, on how you think we should proceed." He said, looking up at Avis again. He wouldn't say so, and he was trying not to show it again, but he was moving back towards his exhaustion state and was having difficulty thinking clearly. "I want to be absolutely certain that you won't get hurt in whatever we try."

Avis nodded. "We can wait for the island to swing a little closer to the edge. I hold one end of the rope, and you hold the other. You can jump across; you're strong, and you can probably jump a lot further than I can. The rope's long enough to span a long distance, but we only need a little bit of it. When you're across, I get as close to the edge and tie the rope around my waist or something like that. Then I slide down and I can use my legs to hit the wall, so that doesn't hurt me. From there, you can pull me up, and we'll both be across." She smiled a bit, then sighed. "It's the only thing I can think of, and I don't see you coming up with any grand ideas..."
